Pantomime Corporation, the interactive augmented and virtual reality startup, has won this year’s Launch Silicon Valley World Cup Tech Challenge, the annual competition of startup companies.
In that international competition, hosted by Silicon Valley Forum on May 20, 2014, the judges ranked Pantomime Corporation first among 6 worldwide finalists in the Digital Media / Mobile category.
“Pantomime is driving an inflection point in technology, gaming and mobile, with a very solid and credible team,” said Silicon Valley Forum CEO Adiba Barney as she presented the award, which includes $24,000 in Microsoft services and $5000 in legal services from event sponsor Cooley LLP .
The Pantomime team includes Dr. David Levitt, alumnus of MIT, Yale, and virtual reality inventor VPL Research; and Don Hopkins, core developer of the revolutionary game The Sims™, still the leading game franchise with over 175 million units sold so far and nearly $3 billion in revenue. A one-minute video showed how Pantomime’s disruptive technology lets networked users interact in 3D worlds using their mobile devices, with no need for wearables or additional hardware.
“We’re honored to receive this award and grateful the judges understand our vision for virtual and augmented reality,” said Dr. Levitt. “In a world of ubiquitous computer screens, immersive reality isn’t about strapping one of them to your face. It’s about all our devices harmoniously sharing richly animated realities — whether they’re in our family rooms, on our desks, or in our hands.”
